FROM BLACKOUT TO BRIGHT LIGHTS: How Dr. Naheem Balogun Rewrote Epe’s Story

For more than six years, large parts of Epe were trapped in darkness — not because the people were forgotten, but because leadership failed to act.
Then, change came — not from government power, but from personal responsibility.
Before holding any public office, Dr. Naheem Abiodun Balogun, fondly known as Imole Eko, took a bold step that redefined community leadership: he restored light to Epe.
Across all 19 wards, over 534 solar-powered streetlights were installed, turning once-dangerous roads into safe pathways, reviving night trading, and improving community security. For residents, it was not just illumination — it was a return to normal life.
But the transformation did not stop with streetlights.
More than 3,000 youths were trained and empowered with practical skills, including solar installation and maintenance. At graduation, they did not leave with certificates alone — they received working tools to start earning immediately.
Communities that were once cut off by erosion and flooding saw new culverts constructed and roads reopened. Clean water projects reached areas long neglected, while vulnerable families received targeted support during festive seasons.
What made Dr. Balogun different, many residents say, is that he acted before asking for votes.
“I am not a career politician,” he often says — and in Epe, that statement carries weight. While others made promises, he delivered projects.
Today, Epe stands as proof that leadership is not about titles, but about service.
And as Lagos approaches 2027, supporters argue that what worked in Epe can work across the state.
This election, they say, is not about experimentation —
it is about competence, compassion, and proven results.
From community impact to statewide transformation,
Dr. Naheem Abiodun Balogun presents not just a vision, but a record.
Lagos has seen what he can do.
Now, the question is: are we ready for more light?
