PRESS STATEMENT
ON THE UNLAWFUL TAKEOVER OF ADC EVENT CENTER IN ALIMOSHO LOCAL GOVERNMENT, LAGOS STATE

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Media Frontiers Nationwide wishes to bring to the notice of Nigerians, members of the international community, civil society organizations, and lovers of democracy the unlawful disruption of our scheduled coalition coverage program in Alimosho Local Government, Lagos State.

Our attention has been drawn to the unfortunate development where the Lagos State Police Command has taken over the event center slated for tomorrow’s program, thereby denying our party the constitutional right to freely associate, gather, and express ourselves in line with democratic principles.

This action is not only a violation of our freedom of assembly and political participation, but it also raises serious concerns about the fairness and openness of the democratic space in Nigeria. As a registered political party, the ADC has the lawful right to organize, mobilize, and engage with citizens without intimidation, harassment, or undue obstruction.

We strongly condemn this act and call on the relevant authorities, including the Inspector General of Police, the Lagos State Government, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to intervene immediately and ensure that our event is not hindered. Democracy cannot thrive in an atmosphere where opposition parties are denied the basic right to organize lawful gatherings.

We urge our party faithful, supporters, and members across the country to remain calm and law-abiding in the face of this provocation. The ADC remains committed to the ideals of peace, justice, and democracy, and no act of intimidation will deter us from pursuing the mandate of building a united and prosperous Nigeria.

Signed:
Hon.Ismail haruna

ADC National Media Frontiers Nationwide
