New Year 2026: ADC Lagos Chairman Calls for Gratitude, Unity and Renewed Commitment.
The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos State, Mr. George Ashiru, has called on Lagosians and Nigerians to embrace unity, hope, and democratic renewal as the country enters the year 2026.
In his New Year goodwill message, Ashiru thanked God for the successful transition into a new year, describing 2026 as a season for renewed purpose, collective growth, and national reflection.
According to him, the challenges and victories of 2025 served as vital lessons that strengthened Nigerians both individually and collectively. He noted that despite economic and social difficulties, citizens demonstrated resilience as parents, patriots, and nation builders, adding that their sacrifices would not be in vain.
Ashiru said 2026 presents a defining moment for Nigeria’s future, urging citizens to choose progress over stagnation and hope over despair. He questioned whether the nation would remain bound by the failures of the past or rise to build a brighter and more inclusive future anchored on justice, equity, and opportunity for all.
The ADC Lagos chairman stressed the need for people-oriented policies capable of lifting millions out of poverty, protecting the vulnerable, and creating a healthy environment for children, youths, and the elderly. He also decried economic elitism and called for empathetic governance that prioritises the welfare of ordinary citizens.
Expressing concern over youth migration, Ashiru urged leaders to inspire confidence among young Nigerians by creating opportunities that would encourage them to contribute meaningfully to national development rather than seeking survival abroad.
Reaffirming his belief in national unity, he called on Nigerians to renew their commitment to the ideals of brotherhood, as enshrined in the national anthem, regardless of ethnic or linguistic differences.
Focusing on Lagos State, Ashiru prayed for peace, expanded economic opportunities, and the emergence of a truly global city driven by inclusiveness, justice, and excellence for its over 20 million residents.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain steadfast in the face of present challenges, calling on the nation to rise above adversity and embrace a hopeful future.
“Arise and shine, Lagos. Arise and shine, Nigeria,” he declared.
