Balogun, a native of Epe in Lagos State on both his maternal and paternal sides, made the declaration during a visit to the ADC Alimosho Local Government Area executive on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the ECO Event Centre, Egbeda, Alimosho, Lagos.
Addressing party leaders and supporters, the aspirant expressed delight at the large turnout and warm reception he received. He assured Lagosians of purposeful and effective governance if elected, stating that with the vast resources and current Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Lagos State, the state ought to have attained a level of development comparable to global cities such as Dubai.
Speaking at the event, Balogun clarified that the gathering was not a formal campaign, but rather a declaration of his intention to vie for the governorship seat on the ADC platform. He explained that the official campaign period would provide ample opportunity for public debates and scrutiny, during which Nigerians would be free to ask questions and demand accountability from aspirants.
He noted that citizens across the country had endured prolonged hardship, adding that the prevailing pain and suffering highlighted the urgent need for a change in leadership. According to him, Nigeria could no longer continue on its present trajectory.
The ADC governorship hopeful urged Nigerians to prepare ahead of the 2027 general elections by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing the PVC as a civic right and a powerful instrument for democratic change. He referenced the 2023 general elections as a major statement by the electorate, stressing that the lessons from that exercise must not be ignored.
Responding to questions on political alliances, Balogun stated that his ambition was inclusive and open, affirming that there would be no discrimination. He added that individuals from other political parties who are genuinely committed to the progress and overall development of Nigeria are welcome to join the movement.
